Information Services

About the Department

The Information teams at the Cambridge and Hurlock branches are committed to providing excellent reference services to the public in order to meet the information needs of our community. We strive to make information accessible to everyone in a professional, timely manner. Some of the services we offer include reference interviews, reader’s advisory programming, placing holds for our patrons on items outside our library and larger consortium, as well as help with genealogy and local history projects.

The information desk can be reached during normal operational hours by telephone, or by email. The Cambridge information desk can be reached by email at infodesk@dorchesterlibrary.org. The Hurlock information desk can be reached by email at hurlockinfo@gmail.com.

We look forward to continuing to serve you and meet all your information needs!

Computer Use

The Dorchester County Public Library offers computers for public use that include the full Microsoft Office suite, as well as internet and printer access. Appointments are recommended for staff assistance with computer tutorials and job applications. Please call ahead to either branch location to confirm staff availability.

Research

With a current library card, patrons can access over 50 databases and services completely free. From genealogy and gardening to language learning and test prep, a trove of information on a wide swath of topics is available anywhere, at any time.

The library also offers access to the M. Virginia Webb Memorial Maryland Room. This special collection, located at both of our branches, contains a wealth of local history, photographs, yearbooks, and other historical documents. At the Cambridge branch, we also have a publicly accessible microfilm archive.
